Johnson County Court Dockets

JohnsonINCourt.us helps find publicly available information about court cases in Johnson County, Indiana. For official searches, use state court system resources, contact the court clerk, or work with visitor terminals available in the courthouse. Document availability and access level depend on the case type and privacy rules.

Johnson Court System & Jurisdictions

Johnson County operates Johnson Circuit Court and Johnson Superior Courts 1, 2, 3, and 4. Indiana does not have a separate district court as is common in some states; circuit and superior courts have general jurisdiction, and local rules distribute cases among judges and registries.

Start by searching by last name or case number in the official MyCase service. Select Johnson County and, if known, the specific court. The court name and case number on the results page will indicate which registry to contact for a copy.

  • Circuit Court handles civil, criminal, family, and probate matters within general jurisdiction.
  • Superior Courts also handle criminal and civil cases, family disputes, child-related issues, traffic violations, and other categories assigned to a specific court.
  • Small Claims are filed with the appropriate division of the Superior Court. Before filing or searching, check with the clerk which court has the registry for the needed category.
  • Family and Probate Court are not separate courts here. Divorces, guardianships, adoptions, wills, and probate — the legal process of estate administration — are conducted within the circuit or superior court.
  • Traffic Cases may involve traffic rule violations and criminal charges, such as driving under the influence. Such charges are handled by the circuit court.

Court records are generally open, but not everything will be visible online. Adoptions, juvenile cases, mental health records, expunged or sealed materials, and personal data have restricted access according to Administrative Rule 9.

Johnson Court Calendar & Upcoming Hearings

For today's, tomorrow's, or scheduled hearings for the week, open the official Indiana Court Calendar. In the filters, select Johnson County, the court name, and the desired date. The calendar shows available public events; a judge or clerk may change the time, room, or hearing status without notice.

  1. Set the hearing date: today, tomorrow, or another day of the current week.
  2. Narrow the result by court if the case number includes its name.
  3. Open the case record in MyCase to verify parties, case number, and latest docket entries.
  4. If the hearing is important to your case, call the clerk before traveling. The online calendar does not replace court notifications.

Not every session is displayed publicly. Closed hearings, juvenile materials, and cases with restricted access may not appear in the results.

How to Get a Copy of a Johnson Court Document

The case number significantly speeds up the request. If not available, prepare the full names of the parties, the approximate year of filing, and the court name, if known. The clerk does not provide legal advice and does not determine which document you need.

Unofficial Copy is suitable for personal review when the document is already open to the public. In MyCase, images of filed documents or event records may sometimes be available, but file availability depends on the case and access restrictions.

Certified Copy includes the clerk's certification and is usually required by an institution, court, or other official party. When ordering, specifically request a certified copy and name each document separately.

  1. Find the case in MyCase and note the cause number.
  2. Contact the clerk in person or send a written request by mail after confirming the acceptable payment method.
  3. In the request, specify the case number, parties, document name, number of pages or copies, and need for certification.
  4. Ask the clerk to confirm the amount payable, especially for old paper cases or a large document package.

Requests for court documents are submitted to the office of the Clerk of the Johnson Circuit Court:

Clerk of the Johnson Circuit Court

5 E. Jefferson Street
Franklin, IN 46131Phone: (317) 346-4467

Old cases may require archival search or additional time. If the document is closed to the public, the clerk will not issue it without proper court authorization or proof of access rights.
